In One Week, You Can Begin To Change Your Life

 

That sounds like a big over promise, doesn’t it?

In just one week?  Notice that I didn’t say that in one week, you will:

*Reach your goals

*Lose all the weight

*Get six pack abs

*Solve all your problems

But, in one week, you can begin the journey.  To begin the process to work on the things that you know, deep inside, you need to work on.

I have a couple of questions for you.

  1. What is the current problem you are facing in your Be a Size You journey? 
  2. How will you feel once that problem is solved?

One of the biggest concerns I hear from my sister friends who are working on their journeys is that they feel so completely overwhelmed by the changes that have to be made, even though they know they need to happen.

They feel like a failure when they can’t complete a sixty day fitness plan (or even a 30 day plan!) and they get stuck in this self-defeating cycle of quit and start again.

I want to change that for you.

What if, in one week, you can begin to work on that problem you are facing in your Be a Size You journey.  Whether it be the internal struggles and the external that leaves you feeling bewildered and frustrated and desire for change, one week is truly all you need to begin that process.

Beginning on October 9th, I will be launching my Clean Week groups.  They will happen once a month, in the beginning of the month.  

They will run for 7 days only.

They will include 30 minute workouts that anyone can do. I promise, even the most beginner of fitness levels can do this.

There will be simple food guides and recipes so you and your whole family can do this and support each other.

There will be superfoods to make nutrition even more brainless for you. 

Continuous support and encouragement from me and fellow sister friends who are doing this with you. You won’t be alone!

Scripture and hope because I truly believe God cares about you and your health.  Because I want these one week gatherings to be a place where we tackle our giants head on, where we are uplifted and motivated, and spurred on to love one another and do good.  

For a group like this, you can do the workouts for FREE.

But, if you are truly wanting to maximize your efforts, and expedite your results, $30 is all you need for your brainless nutrition.  Because it is not enough to just move our bodies.

We must nourish them.  We must put good things inside.  We must take the week seriously if we are really going to tackle that goliath in our Be a Size You journey.

Do You Take Supplements Other Than Shakeology?

I actually get this question a lot.

And the answer is YES!  I do!

I would love to share with you what my hubby and I use on a regular basis in order to help us reach and maintain our health goals.

Beachbody Performance Energize

This is the Pre-workout I use the most, to be honest.  I challenge myself regularly to pretty intense workouts and this specific pre-workout gives me enough of the energy push without giving me the feeling that my body was exposed to crack.  I also really like that it is naturally flavored and doesn’t have any artificial sweeteners.  It only comes in Lemon Flavor but that doesn’t bother me one bit.   I know how hard Beachbody works to get the ingredients right and combine sport and science together to give us supplements that are effective and safe and not full of junk.  This one is legit!

Beachbody Performance Recover 

Story time! So my husband has recently begun his own health and fitness journey and for the last 8 weeks, my man has been running, hitting the gym (he doesn’t enjoy working out at home, so he will head to our local gym and sweat it out.) or ride his bike.  Plus, he has been paying closer attention to what he is putting on his plate and I have been cooking more Paleolithic style meals for him to help him reach his goals. He has about 30 pounds to lose, and I am pretty sure he has already cut around 10, if not more.  He is working really hard! I am hoping he will allow me to take one photo of him during his journey so I can brag on him on the blog.

He personally loves the Beachbody Performance Recover in the Orange Flavor.  You guys, I am not kidding when I say that it tastes like an Orange Julius. Who remembers those from the mall? Do they still have those?  I used to get those all the time as a kid. It was how our parents bribed us when we had to do some shopping (although, I don’t think they needed to bribe me when it came to shopping. We all know how I feel about shopping. I LURVE it!)

The chocolate flavor is also really good and reminds me of a Wendy’s Chocolate Frosty. So delicious and refreshing, especially after an intense workout and you need something right away to refuel you.

These supplements are what I use personally and I truly do stand behind them.  One of the things that I felt that Beachbody was lacking for the longest time was really good, performance based supplements.  So many people are intimidated in trying Shakeology, or flat out aren’t interested, but they do want quality protein and pre-workouts to help with their workouts.  I truly think these products are incredible and some of the best on the market!

A Strong Mind and Body is Greater Than a Skinny One

The other day I did a 17 Minute HIIT workout.  For most people, that won’t feel long enough to be considered an effective exercise, but I have been working out long enough to know that if I want a shorter workout, than I have to be willing to push myself a little harder.

And that is exactly what I did.  For those 17 minutes, I lifted heavier, squatted deeper, moved faster, and jumped higher than before.

All because I could. I finally could.

It felt amazing.

On Instagram and Facebook, it is very easy to get caught up in the image side of health and fitness. Everyone wants to six pack abs or to look super fit and toned.  If I am being honest, I want those things too.

But I have to remind myself all the time that a strong body and mind is way more valuable than just a skinny one.

Hear me out, I promise I won’t skinny shame.

When I look at my husband, I want to live long enough so that we become that couple that ditches their college bound kids to go on our own adventures.  I don’t want to be so sick and weak that I can’t travel with him. I want to go all over the world with him at my side.  I don’t want to just sit on the couch.

When I see my kids, I delight in their dreams of either being a Major League Baseball player or being an Olympic Swimmer, and I want to be in the front row as they chase their dreams. I don’t want to be on the couch just watching from afar because I am not healthy or strong enough to be there.

I want to be mentally alert and have conversations that inspire change and hope. I want to serve alongside my sisters and friends in our communities to make it a better place. It is hard to do that if I am house bound and unable to contribute.

I don’t just want to write about change and hope and love on social media. I want to be an ACTIVE part of it.

I don’t want to just spout off opinions.

I want to be a part of the chain reaction of LOVE and GRACE.

Each day that I choose to move my body is not only for aesthetics.

It is so I can contribute and use the gifts and talents that God has given me for Kingdom purpose.

You may see it as superficial.

I see it as vital.  God’s people healthy and living and active in the community to show His love.  His daughters loving their husbands and children and teaching them the way they should go.

Bestowing grace and being aware of those who are in need of hope in a dark filled world.  When I stopped viewing my workouts as simply for physical reasons and started looking at all the ways working out has helped me (including being some much needed therapy!), I have grown to love my time away to sweat. It doesn’t always mean my workouts are winners, but it does mean that I feel a little better, I feel good in the skin I am in, and I am ready to tackle whatever life throws at me.

Must Have Equipment for Your Home Gym

I have been working out at home for the last 7 years and have not had a gym membership in almost 10 years…even when I wasn’t working out!  Haha!

When I decided to begin my own Be a Size You journey and take care of myself, I knew that a gym membership would have been ideal, but with two young kids and not a ton of time, I really believed that I would have just set myself up for failure by trying to fit in the driving time to the gym. So my husband and I decided that creating a simple space for me to workout at home would be optimal. Plus, I could workout on my own time and not compete with others for machines etc.

I started out really simple: A yoga mat, a couple of weights ( 2 pounds, 3 pounds and 5 pounds!), one resistance band, a workout DVD (and some YouTube), and an old pair of shoes.  That’s it!

For those of you who are just beginning your journey and you are looking to begin creating your workout space at home, trust me when I say you don’t need all the bells and whistles.  You just need a good attitude, willing to spend a little bit of money for tools, and a tiny bit of space to store your tools (notice I didn’t say a ton of space…I will explain why in a bit.)

Here are some of my must haves for your home gym, and a few extras that I think would be great to have if you have additional room in your budget. Most of these can be found on my fitness shopping site, so if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to shoot me an email. I am here to help!

Beachbody on Demand: Yes. This is necessary. It provides every single fitness program Beachbody has ever created, including the nutrition guides and tips for those programs.  Plus, if you do the annual membership (and get it as a bundle with Shakeology or Beachbody Performance) you save a ton of money.  I am all about having the right tools, but saving money!

Resistance Bands:

I love resistance bands because they offer a different kind of resistance than weights.  Generally, dumbbells are used primarily for upper body exercises and some lower body, but I love that resistance bands can help you build muscles and work on your entire body.  It is a versatile tool and I think it is a must have for those who are creating a home gym. Plus, they aren’t that expensive. Yes!!!!!

Balance Ball:

If you can’t afford a workout bench, and you are really wanting a gym like atmosphere as well as a way to do the strength training exercises that you are used to with gym equipment, a balance ball is a must have. It is great for core work, balance work, resistance work, and also makes a great chair to use while you are working (so you can still work on your core, and work on your posture!)

Yoga Mat:

A yoga mat is needed for Piyo or Yoga or any low impact exercises that require you to be on the floor the majority of the time.  I workout on carpet, but I still enjoy having that cushion barrier between my body and the floor (because, germs and bugs LOL!)

Weights in different pounds.  I don’t have a photo of these, but you can find any weights on Amazon, Target, sporting goods store.  Really, just buy a couple in different weight (one light and one heavy) and you can add as you build muscle.

Now I will share some bonus tools that, if you have some extra room in your budget or you are looking to add to your home gym, you should definitely grab them!

Bowflex Selecttech Weights:

This is on my wish list.  They are not cheap, but if you are looking to eliminate the amount of weights you have to just one adjustable system, these are a must have!!! Amazon always has a good deal running for these, so I highly recommend checking them out there.  I am trying to convince Dan to let me buy these for my birthday next month LOL.  Yes please!

Plyometrics Jump Mat:

A Jump mat would be really good to have, especially if you workout on a hard surface like your garage or you have hard wood floors.  Honestly, plyometrics are hard on the body and especially on your knees. Springy shoes and a springy mat helps a lot with the impact of plyometrics, and can protect you as well.  Obviously, you can always modify and not fully jump through your Plyo workouts, but if you are choosing to jump, this is a great workout tool.

Foam Roller:

I actually believe a Foam Roller should be a necessity in your home gym (think a really inexpensive massage that you can have all the time!) but a lot of people don’t realize the benefits of foam rolling at first. However, for those of us who have been working out our bodies for awhile, foam rolling hurts so good!!  Muscles get tight and sore and they need some TLC, so rolling over those places that you have worked hard helps to heal them and recover.

Strength Slides:

Strength Slides were created to add additional resistance to your Piyo workouts, but really, if you want to take your lower body workouts to the next level, then these are really fun to have! It won’t feel fun when you are doing them, but you will love the results when using them. Perfect for hard floor and carpet!

And that’s it for now!!!  Would love to hear about some of your favorite home gym tools that you have.  Do you have a large area for your workouts? Or is your space small? Mine is small. You don’t need a ton of place to store your equipment, but grabbing a few inexpensive baskets or buckets so they can be placed out of site (for your peace of mind) is useful as well.  I live in a small home right now, so I have a closet designated for my equipment, but when I lived in our trailer on the ranch, I used those big plastic bins and stored them underneath our trailer in one of the compartments. Totally possible. You just have to be willing to be creative.

Why You Don’t Need More Inspiration or Motivation


Inspiration is everywhere. Have you noticed that? Whether we are being inspired to create a beautiful home, or new delicious recipes that will wow your family and friends, or outfit inspirations, we are literally inundated with inspiration and ideas that are meant to move us to action.

Pinterest is a dreamers haven. But I have also found it is the place where dreams go to die.

Why? 

Because being inspired is not the same as action.  Honestly, it is easy to be inspired. Dare I say, it is even easy to be motivated.

Action, on the other hand, is harder. Because that means you have to make a decision to move or do something based on what you have seen.

If what you saw inspired you enough to move, and you actually took action, then fantastic! It worked!!!

But, if you are constantly being inspired but nothing happens….then you don’t need anymore inspiration. 

You need an action plan. You need to move.

People like to chat about being inspired. But being inspired costs you nothing. Literally. It is free. I post on social media every day my workouts, or about something I have read that encouraged me, in order to inspire and encourage all of you. And it is all free for you. I don’t charge for my inspiration. I give that away because I know it can benefit the heart of the reader.

But, if you come to me wanting my help to take action, I will require YOU to put some skin in the game. That means, you will have to invest your time and dollars in order for you to reach your desired goal. Action requires skin in the game. It does not require more motivation or inspiration. Those help to keep momentum. Heck, we all love an “Atta Girl!” Now and then! No shame in that!

But if you aren’t willing to move and put some skin on, then you are wanting to achieve anything. 

Are you ready for this? I say this in love. Completely. Because I love you.

You just want to be inspired. You aren’t looking to change. You don’t want to change, yet. You are not there yet. 

“But why do I have to spend so much money to get healthy/build my business/get training/etc.

Because. If you put into it, it will matter more to you. You will care more. It will hurt more because it cost you something. My journey was not free. It still isn’t. I invest regularly into my health, my relationships, my home, my business, because it matters to me! I have skin in this. It matters.

I know that part is painful. We don’t like to give any part of ourselves if we aren’t sure if it will work out. There are no guarantees, really.

But what if. Just what if you decided to take that inspiration, invest in it, and be surprised by the outcome. 

You may discover it was worth it.

New Leader Conference 2017

Finally, I am able to sit down and type out my greatest takeaways from the New Leader Conference that I had the privilege of being invited to attend this past weekend.

If you don’t know what the New Leader Conference (referred from here on out as the NLC), it is an annual conference that Beachbody holds for those who achieve Two Star Diamond and above in their business and they are invited to attend after meeting qualifications.  It is a once in a lifetime invitation for us coaches, so I can’t attend next year as a Leader to this event.  This was my one time!

I arrived to the JW Marriott Hotel at LA Live in Los Angeles, California and immediately I was able to attend the pre conference party and grab a quick photo with Carl Diakeler, Beachbody’s CEO.  He is an amazing human being.  I was able to chat with many of the staff members that work at Beachbody and they culture he has created with this company is unparalleled to any other company out there.  If you are a staff member at Beachbody, you cannot be a Coach, and many of them said that if they quit their job tomorrow, they would immediately want to sign up as a coach because they have absolutely fallen in love with the vision Carl has created with Team Beachbody and the Coach family.  That says a lot to me about the company I am partnered with.  They want to be a part of what we are doing in helping people live healthier lives. It is not about pitching products.  It is about the revolution to help people.

The next morning, we got to tour the Beachbody HQ’s in Santa Monica.  What an amazing company.  I went live on my FB page as I toured the facility and it made me so excited. They had a Shakeology Bar and their very own Shakista (like a barista!), a HUGE gym with a multiple TV’s so employees could workout via Beachbody on Demand.  They had two large kitchens stocked with Shakeology, Shakeology Boosts, performance formulas, and healthy fruits and veggies for snacking during their work day.

Yeah…it is pretty amazing!

It was a pretty amazing day and it felt like the tour went by really fast. There was so much to see and I was just in awe of the offices. I have worked in offices before and they are nothing like Beachbody! I would so work there!

Later that day, we had our opening sessions and trainings with top coaches in the network. More on my takeaways from those sessions in just a little bit.

That night, we had a cocktail party and we got to take pictures with Joel and Jericho, who co-created the Core De Force fitness program (which is what I will be doing next after I complete 22 Minute Hard Corps). I also had a chance to connect with some other coaches and learn what they were doing in their businesses and how they helped their coaches be better. I loved hearing everyone’s story because honestly, every coach had a different struggle or a difference resource that pushed them to get to where they are. There is truly no one size fits all coach.  I failed to mention that there were only about 250 coaches that qualified to attend this conference so everyone was super friendly and willing to share their knowledge with you. It made stepping out of your comfort zone (especially if you are an introvert like me!) a little bit easier.

The next morning, we got our butts handed to us by Joel and Jericho!!!!!

Core de Force is no joke and it was such an amazing workout.  I was so sore the next day when I had to head home.  My arms, abs, and lower body were definitely feeling the after affects!

It was amazing. And I heard through the grapevine that they will be registering soon for those who want to get certified to teach Core De Force Live at our annual Coach conference this year. What do you think friends? Should I do it?  I got certified to teach Cize, so maybe I should add one more! It is an awesome workout!

We had breakfast and Shakeology (of course! Healthiest meal of the day!), then I cleaned up real fast and headed to our next sessions with the top coaches in the network. We also got to hear from Darin Olien, the co-creator of Shakeology, and he really broke down bit by bit why he fought so hard to create a product like Shakeology and why the ingredients in Shakeology are the best the WORLD has to offer and from the best, most nutrient dense soils.  He travels around the world to do his research.  Hearing him share and hearing his passion come through about nutrition. It is not just about getting people to buy a shake. Their very health and lives are involved! We want them healthy!

Our One Word

At then end of the conference, we were asked to share one word that would perfectly describe why we were proud to be a part of Team Beachbody. Each person had so many different words that they chose, and each word had a story that was attached to it.

My word? Persevere.

I will share more on my word really soon, but what I see in the coaches is that no matter what, we persevere. Helping people choose health and fitness is not easy.  It is not as easy as buying new clothes that they can instantly put on and feel cute in.  Or skin care.  It is not instantaneous. We aren’t in the business of microwave results. it takes a lot of hard work and sometimes, the results are months in the making.  But we push through the no’s, we push past the doubts and even the criticism from those who don’t believe in what we are doing, because ultimately we know that there are those out there who need encouragement, support and hope in their struggle.

They need the push to fight for their own life, and we as Coaches get to do that. We get to help them fight.

We get to see them LIVE again.

My heart is so full after this incredible weekend.  I am excited for my new coaches who will be joining my upcoming New Coach bootcamp (still time to join us!).  I am still trying to process it all and sharing it with my team.  I have encouraged them to put the NLC on their goal board for next year.

It is a must attend event!

Beachbody Health Bet is Back in January!

It is back!!! For those of you who missed out on the Beachbody Health Bet back in September, you get another chance. Plus, this will be a perfect opportunity for you to work on some of those health goals you have set for yourself for 2017.  You absolutely can achieve anything you want to, so long as you are willing to put in the work.

Here is what you need to know.

Beachbody is putting in $1M of its own money into a big pot that you can earn a share of, but there at some rules.  In order to earn your share of the $1M (and P.S. that pot is likely to go up to $2M and up depending on how many participate), you must complete the rules entirely. There will be no exceptions.

Rules:

  1. You must be a participant in my Challenge group on the My challenge tracker app. If you want to be in my group, you must be my customer and challenger in order to be included in my group. You also need to have a valid First and Last Name, email address, and shipping address on record with your Team Beachbody Account by February 6th (so you can receive your payout.)
  2. You must log in a minimum of 5 Shakeology uses, each accompanied by a photo during each qualification week.  (1/15, 1/22, 1/29, & 2/5).
  3. You must log a minimum of 3 workouts during each qualification week. They do not have to be Beachbody workouts and no photo is required.

 

My group is not open to other Beachbody Coaches unless you are a new coach on my team. If you are a coach and you want to participate, you definitely need to run your own group and invite your friends to get healthy with you! The Beachbody Health Bet is also only open to those in the US (including Puerto Rico), and Canada (excluding Quebec).

Build Strength Inside and Out


When I am asked about what I do as a Beachbody Coach, most people, I assume, think I am mostly involved with sales. While people certainly invest in a fitness program and purchase from me, that is the smallest piece of what me and my team actually we do.

We pride ourselves on Functional Fitness. What does that mean? It means we are less focused on the idea of six pack abs and tight bodies, and more on the intentional side of health and fitness. We work to help people find a fitness routine that fits their current needs and lifestyle and work alongside them as their guide and cheerleader to ensure they are successful in whatever they are trying to achieve. That doesn’t mean that people don’t work to lose weight or build muscle or lean out, as those are goals we help with, but we are more concerned with building health and strength inside and out and for a lifetime, not just for a season.

How do we go about doing that? We create online fitness groups. We call them bootcamps, challenge groups, communities, but the idea is the same. We connect with each individual to see what their needs are. We make it about them. We help them clarify what they absolutely want to achieve, and we walk them through purchasing a fitness and nutritional plan that will work best for them in their season of life. 

Our groups will often run for 21, 30, 60, or 90 days and we are their guides through the entire thing.

I also personally add scripture and Devotionals to my groups because I believe God absolutely has a place in our health and fitness journey. He created our bodies for a glorious purpose. Why not include Him and honor Him with our bodies.
