I Can No Longer Keep Silent

“He has told you, O man, what is good;

and what does the Lord require of you

but to do justice, and to love kindness,

and to walk humbly with your God?”

Micah 7:8

I don’t often blog in an emotional state, because that often means I go unfiltered and I tend to lose my cool a little bit.  I have to be honest here, though.  I am highly upset.  I am mad. I am heartbroken over the evil that transpired in Vegas and the lives that were lost and the people who are suffering because of this.

I am angry and I have had enough.

I know so many of you are feeling the same way.

When I first saw all of the tweets and posts about gun control and 2nd amendment rights  that came up immediately in the hours after news broke, at first, I was upset about it.  I told myself that “now isn’t the time to bring it up.” 

But when will it be time?  When can we bring up that something isn’t right?  Something is wrong with us.  There is evil widespread here and we as human beings can no longer have a meaningful conversation about this very topic (and many others) without resorting to name calling. Whether we are called a racist or a snowflake, that is what it has come down to. We are not capable of listening to each other about issues that we as human beings should care about.

Listen up, people are dead right now. Dead. From a man who had a weapon that could mow down people in rapid fury.  Screw your rights as of this moment.  People are dead.

When Sandy Hook happened, I couldn’t catch my breath. First graders murdered in their classrooms. Mamas having to bury their babies because of one person. I had a first grader at that time.  I feared, and still do, sending my children to school.  And still we kept hearing about “our rights to own a gun!” Yet, we are also the first ones to yell out “All Lives Matter” and go on and on about being pro-life.

You are not listening. I am as pro 2nd amendment as they come. My family is in law enforcement. I have been informed about gun safety and laws, I understand it is a weapon that can be used for evil, but for most Americans, it is for personal protection.  I am pro-life.  I am a Christian.

I am also for justice.  And I see no justice for those who are dead when there are so many of us who don’t believe in having a real conversation about this issue simply because we don’t think it will work. Or insert whatever excuse you have heard or said.

It needs to be addressed.

Yes, it is a mental health issue.

Yes, it is a gun control/legislation issue.

Yes, it is a heart issue.

We talk. We listen. We come up with ideas and plans and laws to make a difference. Stop coming at each other with “stricter gun laws won’t work” or “All gun owners are evil.” That doesn’t help the conversation. We need to listen. If someone has an opinion about this, ask them, without an attitude or an edge, as to what their idea may be. Don’t come at them with they are wrong, or stupid, or if the idea is stupid. They are trying. We want to try. We want to fix this. We are tired of seeing people we love die because of this. 

I don’t have all the answers. I know that we can come up with some sort of solution. Here is what I am learning, though. The government is always going to fight for what they want. Either side, it doesn’t matter. They are far more concerned with their political agenda than they are with us. Democrat, Republican, it doesn’t matter. They want to win.

That is where you and I, the ones who vote, come in.  Start talking. Start sending letters to congressmen and women. Call them. Start showing up in meetings.  Start connecting with your neighbors, even those with a different political and religious view than yours and start coming up with ways to make this world, our country, our home, a better place to raise our babies in.

Evil has no place here.  We must seek justice.  We the people can do that.  We can push back against those in leadership and make them do their jobs. We should have done this a long time ago.

I am currently looking at photos on my table, photos of my kids, of our entire family on vacation, of my babies when they were babies. My wedding day marrying the man I am madly in love with.

If I had lost any of them to something so senseless, you bet your rear end I would call for something to be done.

Because those lives absolutely matter to me.  They matter.

Those lives lost, young and old. They matter. They are important. Human beings are worth the fight. We can always change laws if things improve.  But we can’t bring loved ones back from the dead.

Let’s starting talking. Let’s seek justice and love kindness and walk humbly.

My Favorite Christmas Gifts For Those You Love

I know Christmas is about Jesus and not about the gifts.  This year, I really want to spend a great deal of time with my kids and reiterating the story of Christ and His birth and what that means for us. This is a time for joy and celebration!

That being said, I know many of you are looking for the perfect gift for those you love and it can be incredibly overwhelming and stressful.  But have no fear! I have some fabulous ideas.  This might be broken up into a few different posts (For Her, Him, Children, Teens etc) otherwise this post will be REALLY long.

Don’t get me wrong. I love me some Amazon and Target….but knowing that I can purchase from a mama or a family and that my money goes to their business and to bless them, then I am all for it. Beachbody is my job, yes, but it has very little to do with having or attaining a Beachbody.  My mission is to help women, no matter where they are coming from, to love the bodies God gave them and care for them. To Those Who Are Disappointed

It is over. The Election is finally over and I think for the majority of this country, we are finally breathing.  It has been extremely rough, hasn’t it America?

Personally, I find myself exhausted from all of the nastiness, the names we called each other. The fear and hate and attitudes we had towards one another because of who we chose to support in this election.  It was hard.  I am tired. I bet you are too. I can only imagine how the candidates and those who campaigned with them feel.

For those of you who are hurting and are extremely disappointed and feeling fearful, I am so sorry.  I take no pleasure in your heartache.  We may have very well been on the opposite side of the coin when it comes to policies and government, but you are a human being no less, and your feelings and heartache matters to me.

You still have a voice and you still matter in this world.

So,  what do you teach your children post election?

To be kind.  To love others. To put others needs before themselves. To be humble.  To not fear but choose love and hope instead.

Even if you feel that our new President-elect does not represent those very things, YOU can still teach them in your home.

Be an example to your children.  You can express disappointment without getting into the political bias, fear, and hatred in your own home. Be above it.

This morning, as I took my children to school, I listened to the chatter on the playground. Children were discussing things, in fear, like:

“Trump hates all Mexicans and will build a wall or blow up Mexico.”

“Clinton is evil and wants to just let bad people into our country.”

“Clinton is a liar.”

“Trump is stupid.  He is mean. Those who voted for him are racist.”

And so on. On an elementary school playground. I had to prepare the heart of my 10 year old daughter, whom God has created as a tender hearted person, for the possibility that someone would tell her that if her parent’s voted for a particular candidate, then her parents are clearly ________.

If you are a parent, and you are disappointed today, be above reproach. Show kindness, humility, graciousness.  Express your disappointment, you absolutely have that right.  But remember that your precious ones are watching how YOU react. How You will behave. How you will treat others. They will take their cues from you.

For those who are disappointment, my heart breaks for you. I am so sorry that you are feeling all of this fear, anger, and anxiety. I encourage you to mediate on Philippians 4:8:

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-think about such things.”

Praying for you and for our entire Country today. God is still on the throne.

Ready for Harvest

Whenever I think of Autumn, I think of the words in John 4:34-35:

“Jesus said to them, ‘My food is to do the will of Him who sent me and to accomplish His work…..Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest.” 

After summer, Fall is my next favorite season.  Here in California, we don’t really experience seasons.  Unless you live in more northern parts of our state, it generally stays the same temperature with some variances in heat. But not too much. For instance, last week? We were hitting 90 plus degree temps.

Yeah, Fall doesn’t feel like fall quite yet.

But that is okay.  I think the fields are still ripe and ready.

Especially the fields in your own home, and in your communities, and in the hearts of those you love.

Our family got to take a break from the mundane and school, and went to our local apple farm in Julian, CA to pluck from the trees that were ready to share their abundance with us.  This is the kind of stuff I live for.  Julian is this perfect little town and it is so cute and I wish that I could visit it all the time!

We got to go with friends from church and can I say that we as a family really needed this. We needed to go on an adventure together. Yes, to most, it was simply apple picking. But to me, to this mama heart, we have been so busy rushing from one activity to the next, our schedules are full and it feels like we are on a hamster wheel. So the fact that we got to bend the rules a bit and get away as a family together to do something fun meant the world to me.

The Fields are ready for harvest in my own home.  No one else is going to spend as much time as Dan or me to teach my children about Jesus or spend time with them.  It is the will of God who created me and made me a mother to raise up these little humans.   It is my job. It is my main ministry.  I have a heart for women and I am actively pursuing women’s ministry, but my first role is wife and mama.  Family.

It is why going to the apple farm with the kids and Dan meant so much to me.  It was a chance to create a memory that we could talk about together.

I am also reminded that I am to love other people, especially when their hearts are ripe and ready to hear a message that can be transforming to their lives.  I will let God do all of the heart transforming work. I will simply open my mouth and be available to those who need to hear powerful truth.

Being on social media tends to be a popularity contest of sorts.  I don’t want to post so that I can become more popular or gain more likes. I want to post words that will inspire and point back to Him.  My hope is that each person who visits my small corner of the internet, they will be moved to learn more about their Creator and to fully submit to His goodness.

When I take my children out and we go on adventures, my heart isn’t that they will see how much money we spent or all the cool places we get to go.  My heart is that they will see that I love them and desire to spend time with them and to have fun with them and create memories together. Right now, I need to be nurturing and caring towards their little hearts so that as they grow older and one day have families of their own, they will spend the time harvesting in the hearts of their children, as Dan and I tried to do with them.

Often when a lot of read scripture and we see the callings that Jesus placed on the disciples to share and witness, we think of traveling all over the world, or going on missions trips or running non profits.  But God has shown me over and over again that I have my own little field right in front of me that needs attention.

For those fields are white for harvest.

Build Strength Inside and Out


When I am asked about what I do as a Beachbody Coach, most people, I assume, think I am mostly involved with sales. While people certainly invest in a fitness program and purchase from me, that is the smallest piece of what me and my team actually we do.

We pride ourselves on Functional Fitness. What does that mean? It means we are less focused on the idea of six pack abs and tight bodies, and more on the intentional side of health and fitness. We work to help people find a fitness routine that fits their current needs and lifestyle and work alongside them as their guide and cheerleader to ensure they are successful in whatever they are trying to achieve. That doesn’t mean that people don’t work to lose weight or build muscle or lean out, as those are goals we help with, but we are more concerned with building health and strength inside and out and for a lifetime, not just for a season.

How do we go about doing that? We create online fitness groups. We call them bootcamps, challenge groups, communities, but the idea is the same. We connect with each individual to see what their needs are. We make it about them. We help them clarify what they absolutely want to achieve, and we walk them through purchasing a fitness and nutritional plan that will work best for them in their season of life. 

Our groups will often run for 21, 30, 60, or 90 days and we are their guides through the entire thing.

I also personally add scripture and Devotionals to my groups because I believe God absolutely has a place in our health and fitness journey. He created our bodies for a glorious purpose. Why not include Him and honor Him with our bodies. 

That is what I do as a Coach! We serve others in health. It is so fun and rewarding because it means that we are giving people real solutions for their needs. We don’t just give them supplements, we help them develop discipline to make their lives better and to feel good, inside and out.

Vacay-The Be a Size You Way 


If you have been following me on IG, you know that the Harper’s are on vacation in sunny Florida. We have been spending a ton of time with Mickey and his friends and we have definitely needed this time away to just enjoy each other and have some fun! 

When on vacation, it is so easy to get stressed out about how you are going to get all of your workouts in, and how you will eat healthier, but remember, the Be a Size You way is about functional fitness and health. Enjoy your time away. Do not stress. But pack some essentials to help you stay on track.

Here is what I brought along with me to Florida:

1. Single serving packets of Shakeology. Chances are, I won’t be eating 100% clean on this trip. That is okay. I want to make sure that I do get good nutrition while away, which Shakeology absolutely provides for me in that area. 

2. Beachbody on Demand. I like the ease of not having to carry around DVD’s on flights and on vacation. Too much for this mama to remember! Since I already have my iPad and smartphone with me, viola! Log in and start working out. No excuses. I have chosen to do more low impact exercises and ones with minimal equipment (Cize, Piyo, etc) since I am not near a gym, but if you are fortunate enough to be near a fitness center with plenty of equipment, go for a more challenging workout on Demand! 

3. Comfortable shoes and clothes.  I pack my workout clothes! I pick the ones that inspire me to get moving. I love Cross Training Couture tanks and colorful bottoms and my favorite sneakers so that I will see them and get motivated to move! Also, I will challenge myself to take it outside for a run if I can!

4. Consider your location. We are in Florida and walking a ton of hours throughout the theme parks. That is a ton of activity. So if you can’t get a traditional workout in, count your steps for that day in mileage while on vacay. You won’t always be able to do a traditional fitness program on vacation. That is not realistic and remember, your focus is purely functional fitness. Enjoy your time with your family. 

5. Don’t stress about 100% clean eating while on vacation. There are a ton of incredible options for food when you are out and about. I will often pack healthier snacks and even lunches for our trips to to theme park so we can save money, and then splurge on fun treats that we may not get at home. And guess what, you still get to have fun!

Fitness and health on vacation doesn’t have to cause you stress. That is not freedom. Being a Size You isn’t a prison. I don’t believe that God sent His son to die for us and to free us from our sins, just so we can go and put ourselves in a prison of our own making when it comes to physical fitness. 

I hope those tips helps you a bit! I also like to keep myself accountable within my Bootcamps. The support there helps me as well to remember why I do this each and every day!

The Struggle Is Real, Ladies!

My husband began his weight loss journey on Father’s Day. He is a crazy man.  Anyway, he has really been wanting to get back in shape and to his credit, he created a plan that he could follow and I have been trying to make meals that will help him reach his goals.

But remember, he started on Father’s Day. Today is Wednesday. Literally 3 days later.

He has lost 4.5 pounds.

I have been working out for the last 5 years. Lost a ton of weight. Gained some back. Decided this past week to challenge myself with a fitness program from start to finish. Been following it this week to a T and following the nutrition guide (and stick out my tongue and literally move around in circles because, well, LIFE! Just kidding….not really)

I have lost .5 pounds.

Do you feel me ladies??!!!!

I know I am not the only one who is one the struggle bus when it comes to fitness and nutrition. It can be so frustrating when we see our husbands begin their journey’s and it appears to be so much easier for them. They lose weight faster or see change faster. I get it!

But don’t give up.

You see, men will also lose and change faster than we will. The majority of men naturally have more muscle mass on their bodies.  That means, they are burning more at rest than we are. Women have to work to build those muscles. We have some, but they are not as defined as men’s are. It is what it is and that is how we are designed.

Personally, I like the fact that my man has all of those muscles naturally. *wink* Don’t worry, this is a G rated blog post!

But even though my own transformation may not happen as quickly as Dan’s, I am not going to quit. I am going to continue working out to my current program (21 Day Fix Extreme in case you are wondering. It is so hard but I love it!). I am going to remind myself often that every day I choose to push play and nourish my body means I am one step closer to living healthier and living well.

Dan roots me on regularly and notices how hard I work. He is always quick to tell me about the changes he sees in me and in my health (and in my attitude! LOL!)

If you don’t have someone like that in your life, grab some girlfriends to do this with you. Health is a continual journey. It is not a one time destination. We all need some cheerleaders in your life. Find yourself some!

Your body is a temple created by God.  Treat it well. Be grateful that you are able to move it each day. There are many through no fault of their own who are not able to move their limbs like we do. Be grateful for the opportunities.

The struggle happens. It is a part of the journey. But don’t quit.  You got this!

Sweat. Nourish. Pray. Inspire.

Jesus Loves this Hot Mess

You ever feel like you are just one big mess?

It is part of my story. It still is, if I am being honest.  I know it can be really easy to show all of the good stuff on social media. On my IG, you see the highlight reel.  You will rarely see my constantly messy home (I seriously lack in the domestic department), the home cooked meals that are pushed away by picky 10 & 6 year olds.

The tantrums that happen right after you snap a smiling photo on social media for all the world to see.

And then there are your own failures.  The times where you want to get it right, but you end up getting it oh so wrong.

But we don’t often share those photos. We hide them, and then we vow to do better.

We try to be better.  Work harder. Have more faith. Be kinder.

I am thankful, though, that even with all my of my blundering, God loves me.  I am a hot mess. But He loves me too much to stay there.  I am a sinner saved by grace through faith.

That when I found Christ, I became a redeemed daughter of the King!

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, (she) is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” 2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV (emphasis mine)

“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9 ESV

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for the adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will…” Ephesians 1:3-5 ESV

Don’t you see?  The world may see us as failures. We may not ever live up the expectations that society puts on us.  We may very well be a hot mess due to our flesh.

But God loves us. He sees us as His children. Redeemed.  He did not have to create us in order to have a relationship with us.  He had no need. But He CHOSE to.

For that, I am thankful.

Loving Our Neighbors

“By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.” 1 John 3:16 ESV

Have you ever felt, that perhaps as Christians, we are more known for the things we are against, than we are about our love for Jesus and for God’s people?

Have you been getting that sense?

When I watch the news at home, or when I am perusing social media, I see a lot of adjectives that describe those who follow Christ, and they aren’t pretty. The fruit of the Spirit is not evident in the eyes of public opinion.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.” Galatians 5: 22-23 ESV

It is more evident about what we are against than what we are for during the political seasons in our country. It is the truth. More and more Christians will stand up with their Bibles blazing and their cherry picked verses to share why America is going in a terrible direction. We will share Memes that are passive aggressive in nature to let those who are not believers (without calling them out by name) why they are wrong.

I even read a comment on IG from a Christian woman that said if she were to be at a location where there was drinking or a bar, even if she were not participating in drinking, and she was with her friends who were drinking,  it would still be a sin and it would ruin HER Christian testimony.

What?

Sisters, there is a time to hold onto convictions. There are certain things I choose not to do because I know people are watching and I never want to make a new believer or even a person who is searching confused. I am not saying that we should not live above reproach. If you read the passages above Galatians 5:22-23, it lays out the Spirit of the flesh. (Context matters!)

Yet, when I look back on ministry of Jesus, He hung with sinners. He hung with tax collectors, fishermen, even a liar who would betray Him. Yet He loved, and He served them, and He prayed over them.

He broke bread with them. He wept over them.

Isn’t Jesus the example?  What does it serve us, truly, to mock others? To be angry? The direction of our country may not be ideal, very true, but I still believe GOD is in control.

If we see a fellow sister in Christ who may be acting or behaving or making choices that are dangerous or even sinful, social media is not the place for correction. Speaking the truth and reprimands should always be done in love and with a desire to restore a believer. It should never be done to condemn. We are not perfect people.  I can easily list off my own sins.

My point is this, sisters, we need to LOVE more. We need exhibit the Fruit of the Spirit. We need to pray for the Holy Spirit to fill us daily because cannot exhibit His love, His peace, His kindness, His gentleness, patience, goodness, self-control, faithfulness, joy on our own. It is impossible.

May we use our public testimonies not to tell those who do not follow Him what we are against, but what we are for. We cannot expect those who do not know Him to believe in Him or to behave like Christians. But, we can pray. We can love them.

We are for His kingdom. We are for love. We are for joy. They will know that we follow Him when we exhibit His standard of righteousness and love.
