Who is Ready for 2018?!

I hope you all had a magical Christmas with your loved ones! We sure did.

After Christmas, I love spending the next day just reflecting and relaxing and dreaming, especially since the New Year is literally around the corner.

Do you create resolutions or goals for the New Year? I typically don’t call mine resolutions, but I do spend time dreaming and planning on how I would like 2018 to go.

2017 had its highs and lows. This past year was pretty hard and we had plenty of transitions, so I am ready for a fresh start.

Aren’t you?

Here are a few things I am looking forward to next year:

1. More Family Time/Less Time with the phone: This is a struggle as a woman who has a home based business, but I am planning out ways to engage and be present more with my family and less tied to my phone. I need my phone for my business…..but my kids and husband need me more. I want to be around them more. I want to experience more adventures together. I want to capture more memories together. I want to laugh more. Serve with them more. Snuggle more.

2. Declutter/get rid of what no longer serves our home, family, goals. January is a big time for decluttering. I want a fresh slate, so that means going through the things that I have been clinging to, but I really should have let go of a long time ago. That can be anything: clothes, items, mentality, ideas, fear, relationships. Only you can determine what no longer serves you. Maybe it may mean letting go of the good to make room for something great.

3. Add more health related routines: I am already a big fan of working out and eating healthy. I want to find ways to help my family stay healthier even more. More hiking. More water daily as opposed to drinking sugary coffee.

4. Clean up my home and beauty routine without natural products. I have so far worked to clean up my hair routine with a more nature based, anti aging hair care line. I also want to add less toxic cleaning products for my home and even less toxic beauty products. This process will take awhile, as it can get very expensive very quickly. So over time I will be sharing what I have been swapping out and replacing in my home and my beauty routine. Excited to try new products and find new things to love and use on a regular basis.

5. Lead a Bible Study. I am really excited about this one. It has been on my heart for a really long time to lead a bible study. I felt the call to minister and encourage women in God’s word and in life early on in my walk with Jesus. It will only get stronger. So I am excited to take the leap and lead something for my local community and for women, and even serve more in the local church.

6. Focus on having set business hours. I love working and I love my job. But, I tend to get wrapped up in working and not have a closing time. That will need to happen, as I want to spend more time with my family and spend less time on my phone. So having set business hours for my new Business will be a must.

And that is what I have for now!

Would love to hear what some of your goals and dreams are for 2018!

Inspired By The Greatest Showman

I grew up singing and acting. Musicals were my heart beat. The score. The costumes. The story. Everything.

It has been awhile since I have been so inspired by a musical soundtrack.

The Greatest Showman literally has given me all the goosebumps and heart eyes. I am obsessed and I haven’t even seen the movie yet. Ha!

Perhaps it is because nearly every song speaks to this heart of mine as I choose adventure and dreams over neat and tidy.

I was taking a break from doting on a sick child yesterday and scrolled Facebook (I know…..) and I saw a post where women were lamenting how there would be no Christmas for them because they were broke. And stuck. And tired of feeling that way.

I have a lot of opinions about Christmas and money, but that is not what this is about.

My heart broke because there are a lot of people who are feeling this way.

Broke.

Stuck.

Hurting.

Not sure where to step next. Or what to do. Or how to get out of the pit they find themselves in.

I think why I am so in love with the storyline and music of The Greatest Showman is because it is about a man who is down and out and tired of struggling, and decided to put feet to his dreams, as crazy and illogical as it appeared. As much as people disapproved and hated what he was doing, he still did it, and it changed his life.

Changed his family’s life.

Changed others who were needing that kind of hope and encouragement and permission to dream for themselves.

With my new hair business, I know people don’t approve. But I go forth knowing it can change my life, and offer permission to other women to dream and have a business of their own. No, I don’t think Shampoo will change the world. Or your family.

But I Believe you can. And you will. Women will.

To create their own stories for their families and get out of the pit they may find themselves in.

Where are you? Are you struggling? Are you sick and tired of being in the same cycle, year after year, wishing it could get better, but it doesn’t?

Here is the thing: you have to decide to move. To change. Go there. Dream HUGE, crazy, illogical dreams.

Then go put feet on those dreams. Give them legs. YOU are the one who can make them reality. Your actions, your very steps and decisions will help them come alive.

Can I invite you to go there with me? To dream big? To join me?

It’s all an adventure that comes with a breath-taking view….”-Tightrope from the Greatest Showman Soundtrack.

Think about your dreams. Go listen to the soundtrack. Share with me your dreams.

And then let’s go.

2018 Word of the Year: Brave

Every year, I choose a word for the new year.

I don’t make it an overly complicated process. More often than not, the word I choose, I didn’t find it.

It found me.

I often choose words that I noticed as a common theme running through my life.  Whether I was challenged, or experienced growth, or renewal….often there is a word that I find myself uttering more than others.

I search Scripture for support and hope and what God has to say about that word.  Word studies are my favorite.

Brave happened to be a word that seemed to appear at every corner of my life the last few months.  It was as though it was a challenge for me to step out of the boxes I had created for myself, or boxes that others tried to place me in. Whatever the reason, the word inspired me. Moved me.

I thought of Joshua, who had the incredible task of taking over as leader after Moses.  Can you imagine what must have gone through this head?  Moses, who was respected, esteemed, loved, had an intimate relationship with God.

“Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them,  for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6

Then Moses said to Joshua:

“Be strong and courageous, for you shall go with this people into the land that the Lord has sworn to their fathers to give them, and you shall put them in possession of it. It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.” Deuteronomy 31:7-8

The magnitude of the task at hand for Joshua.  I am sure he was nervous.  He did not want to fail Moses.  The people of Israel. God.

But be brave means stepping out into the calling God has on you, whatever it is, even when you are shaking in your heels.

I can think of so many other biblical characters who had to be brave when faced with incredible odds:

David.

Mary, the mother of Jesus. Imagine this one with me for a second.  An unwed young woman in New Testament times, being told that she was to carry the baby Jesus, the Savior of the world. Y’all..really!!!!

Joseph, Jesus’s earthly father.

Rahab.

Tamar.

Ruth and Naomi.

Friends, being brave and courageous as we walk in faith and hand in hand with our Savior, it doesn’t mean that we know the outcome. It doesn’t mean that we don’t experience moments of fear and doubt and uncertainty.  Those callings to be brave……they require faith to step into the unknown while realizing that it is not unknown to God.  He knows the way. He knows the steps. He knows the outcome.

It is for His glory. For the good of His people.   Our choosing to walk in His will when others whisper that it is not safe or smart or what they would do. But while our commandment is the same, to love God and to love His people, He will direct each of us in different ways in order to fulfill that Great Commission.

It is why He has crafted each one of us with different abilities, gifts, passions, insights, personalities. We are many hands and feet working in one body and choosing to be brave and confident in what He is directing and orchestrating in our own lives. It will not look like everyone else’s.

It should not look like everyone else’s.

So Brave is my word for 2018.

What is yours?
