She Laughs at the Time to Come

Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come. Proverbs 31:25

We have a prayer board in our home, and a tiny tin bucket carrying random scraps of paper so that we can easily write out the requests laid on our hearts and for our friends and family.  It is on display where can see it regularly, to remind us to bring those very requests to God.

One particular prayer caught my eye.

It was written by my daughter Madi.

Most of you know that we are in a season of in between.  Waiting. Dan doing random jobs here and there but nothing consistent.  I, myself, am still working at home in order to contribute to providing for our family.  We say we are hopeful, but often times, I think I feel a little desperate and downright impatient.

On this particular day, I was really impatient. And angry. Anxious. Worried. Fretting over what is going to happen next month.  Striving to make things work, no matter how much God continued to provide for us.  I had been carrying this attitude of “if it is meant to be, it is up to me.”

I was living in deep fear and I was acting it out in all of my clawing and striving.

I glanced over at the prayer board and I saw a prayer written in bright green ink. All with misspelled words, but it didn’t matter at the moment.  My 11 year old wrote out a precious request to God for her Daddy.  To help him.  She didn’t care what the answer was. That God would just help him.

I am not usually a crier, but in my old age, that is rapidly changing. I cried because she did it right. She went to the only place she knew how in order to make things a little better.

And that was to her precious Lord.

In all of my stomping and whining and complaining and prideful striving, I didn’t pray nearly as earnest as her sweet prayer on a tiny white sheet of paper.  It was simple, to the point, and honest.  She clothed herself with armor and she activated it with prayer (read Ephesians 6:10-18)

My daughter taught me that while I was doing a good way (working to provide) I was not doing it the best way. I did not always go first to make my requests knows to God.  Or I would be so angry about the wait and so impatient while waiting for answers that I would skip it all together, as if that would show Him.

How gracious is He to remind me that His ways are better. And that he used an 11 year old to remind me? And that it was sweet and precious and gentle?  Sometimes our lessons as we walk it out with Him aren’t that sweet. They can be painful, but this one was not.

I showed a friend of mine Madi’s prayer, and she encouraged me, knowing the season we are in. Her words:

“I can’t help but think of how He used the last tough season to grow you, and I know this one will be the same.”

It was the encouragement I needed that moment to take me back to remember what He, the Lord has done in my life and in the life of my family.  Every season has its peaks and valleys, but He always uses it to grow us closer to Him and mold us to be more like Him. We will always be changed.

Will you clothe yourself in the strength and dignity of the Lord, knowing that He alone is bigger than whatever circumstance, wait, adventure you may find yourself in, and laugh at what is to come.

It may not be what you expected or even requested, but we can have faith that His promises are true and they are sure and we do not have to fear the future, even if it all looks bleak, your bank account is in the negative, no opportunities appearing on the horizon. He is bigger than all of it.

Do You Take Supplements Other Than Shakeology?

I actually get this question a lot.

And the answer is YES!  I do!

I would love to share with you what my hubby and I use on a regular basis in order to help us reach and maintain our health goals.

Beachbody Performance Energize

This is the Pre-workout I use the most, to be honest.  I challenge myself regularly to pretty intense workouts and this specific pre-workout gives me enough of the energy push without giving me the feeling that my body was exposed to crack.  I also really like that it is naturally flavored and doesn’t have any artificial sweeteners.  It only comes in Lemon Flavor but that doesn’t bother me one bit.   I know how hard Beachbody works to get the ingredients right and combine sport and science together to give us supplements that are effective and safe and not full of junk.  This one is legit!

Beachbody Performance Recover 

Story time! So my husband has recently begun his own health and fitness journey and for the last 8 weeks, my man has been running, hitting the gym (he doesn’t enjoy working out at home, so he will head to our local gym and sweat it out.) or ride his bike.  Plus, he has been paying closer attention to what he is putting on his plate and I have been cooking more Paleolithic style meals for him to help him reach his goals. He has about 30 pounds to lose, and I am pretty sure he has already cut around 10, if not more.  He is working really hard! I am hoping he will allow me to take one photo of him during his journey so I can brag on him on the blog.

He personally loves the Beachbody Performance Recover in the Orange Flavor.  You guys, I am not kidding when I say that it tastes like an Orange Julius. Who remembers those from the mall? Do they still have those?  I used to get those all the time as a kid. It was how our parents bribed us when we had to do some shopping (although, I don’t think they needed to bribe me when it came to shopping. We all know how I feel about shopping. I LURVE it!)

The chocolate flavor is also really good and reminds me of a Wendy’s Chocolate Frosty. So delicious and refreshing, especially after an intense workout and you need something right away to refuel you.

Sweat and Freedom: An 8 Week Journey

I am so excited to announce my next virtual fitness accountability group, that is set to begin on September 11th.

It is called Sweat & Freedom: An 8 Week Fitness and Faith journey.

You will notice that this particular group will be a bit longer than most of my groups in the past.

That is because we will not just be working out together and drinking Shakeology and eating healthier to fuel our bodies. We will also be digging deep into His word together through an 8 book/study called The Wellness Revelation by Alisa Keeton, Founder of Revelation Wellness.

In this book and study, she will be challenging us to not only get fit, but to also get fit with God and experience true freedom. It is designed to help you change the way you see yourself and the way you live.  I am so excited by this book and I am excited to offer it as part of my virtual groups in the coming months. Because this is eight weeks long, here are some new details for this specific group.

*This group will run for 8 weeks beginning on September 11th.  No exceptions to the start date.  I want us all to start at the same time, which is why I am announcing it now to give you ample time to prepare (both body and heart!) So with that being said, the final day you will be able to sign up and join us will be on September 6th.

*This will require investment and action from you. What that means is, you must be willing to invest in purchasing this study and/or your fitness plan* so that you can not only study, but put all that you are learning into ACTION.  My job is to help you reach those health goals, and if you aren’t willing to take action steps, it will be very hard to reach them.

Coach of the Week: Hannah O’Polka

I am so excited to share another Coach of the Week post with you all.

I have been wanting so badly to share more about my incredible team of women that make up Be a Size You. We are growing so I know that each week, I will be able to celebrate these amazing women and their accomplishments in their businesses.

I know that in the eyes of many, it is thought that no one can succeed in a business like ours. But I will tell you: that is false. The gals I am featuring are literal proof that if you work hard and treat this like a business and your Why is big enough, you can transform the world and your family’s future.

Let’s get to it, shall we?

Hannah O’Polka. I actually inherited her from a coach of mine that had quit, and she and I instantly connected. She is determined and she doesn’t allow failures keep her from working to grow, either to grow herself or to impact those she comes in contact with.

She has been on my team for a few years, and we met in person for the first time at last year’s annual conference (she lives in Iowa, I reside in California).

What makes her earn the title of Coach of the Week?

*She is a Diamond Coach and well on her way to 2 Star.

*Constantly inviting people to join her movement of being a healthier wife and mama.

Friday Favorites Roundup week of 8/21

Yippeee! It is Friday! I am so dang excited for the weekend. On Saturday and Sunday, our family likes to go on little adventures, whether that is hiking, trying out a new lunch spot, the beach, or just chilling and watching a movie. We do our very best to spend time together in the middle of being so busy with activity. I don’t want to miss a single moment with my family.

On to my favorites!

I am really, really wishing for Fall to hurry up and get here. I have a few Duster cardigans in my closet that need to be worn and I can’t wear them in ninety degree weather. Not happening.

If you don’t have one, you need one or a few! I am searching for a leopard one for myself to add to my collection (so if you spot one, let me know!) because it would be perfect for Fall and for date night in some cute black skinnies and heels. I have already envisioned the outfit I would wear with it. Does that make me weird? Please tell me I am not the only one!

Anyway, the one I am wearing is from Lularoe (my sister, Sheena Roark is a retailer) but here are some other duster cardigan options here, here, and here.

I am currently reading and finishing up Cultivate by Lara Casey. I took a brief break from it to read Be Obsessed or Be Average. These two books are completely different, but I love them both. Excited to share my thoughts and what I learned from Cultivate.

I like simple meals as much as possible. But I have also been digging making Eggs and Kale for breakfast. It is so easy and I just feel so good after eating it. I can’t explain it!

It is especially hardy after a workout. I use my favorite organic spices, Balanced Bites Spices. My husband loves to use the Taco and Fajita seasoning. I love the Savory, Diner, or Italian.

Speaking of workouts, lately, I have been enjoying the 17 Minute HIIT workout by Joel Freeman (co-creator of Core De Force). When I say it is 17 minutes, I mean it. It is intense. It gets the job done, and then you get to go on with your day. It is only available for BOD members, so if you aren’t one, and you would like a free 14 day trial (and you don’t have a coach!) you should check it out! I took this workout (and more) with me to Laughlin this past week and it was awesome to kick butt and not have to figure out what to do for my workout while on vacay. Winning at life!

Laughlin and Other Musings

I am back home, sitting in my favorite comfy chair and already missing the river views. I love Laughlin. Our hotel of choice is Harrah’s.

I spent a great deal of time hanging out with my Mama. And when she was off playing the machines and losing money (sorry, Mom!) I was out at the beach area laying out and reading my book. It was just what I needed. Time alone by the water to just relax and breathe.

While in Laughlin, most of the time we don’t really leave our hotel. There are plenty of restaurants and our hotel on the strip is the only one with a beach. So we stayed where we were which was just fine.

I didn’t take photos of many of my food choices, but there was no “dieting” while I was away. I did my best to pick healthier options, but for the most part, I indulged and felt really no guilt. I have no plans on “getting back on track.” I actually really hate that idea, personally. It sounds like I am constantly dieting and I am not.

This weekend, I chose to look at it as being a little off my normal routine. Now, with being back home, I am just going to hope back into it. Like normal. More on that idea later!

My biggest takeaway from the time away was just how stressed I am and how much I carry it. I work really hard. I don’t believe in being lazy or waiting for others to help me with what I need. I have also really been encouraged, thanks to my book, that while we are in the wait, it is okay to still Cultivate that time.

Waiting doesn’t mean that we just sit around and do nothing. Waiting a lot of times means what we are truly meant to do or what we really want just isn’t here yet, but it is still important to take care of the things that matter. Don’t neglect those things.

It was nice to hang out with my Mama, whom I don’t get to see very often, thanks to distance and busy schedules. She had a good time and we LOVED the buffet! Haha! Although, I have no pictures of her because she also refuses to take photos. But I promise, she was there!

This time away was just what I needed. I needed the time to relax and rest. To not stress out so much. Being by the water helps you do that, you know.

Books for Leaders: Be Obsessed or Be Average

I am a HUGE reader.  I try to read one new book each month as I like to learn new things and get different insights on how I can be a better Wife, Mother, Leader, Business woman, and so much more.

I fully believe in constantly growing and not getting comfortable for too long. Life changes in an instant and you want to be alert and teachable, should you need to do something new or change direction suddenly (been there once or twice!)

I recently finished the book Be Obsessed or Be Average by Grant Cardone and can I be completely honest with you? I didn’t think I would like it.

I thought the title and cover was obnoxious. Hello, sitting and all happy on a jet? Whatever.

But, they say never judge a book by its cover, right?

I absolutely loved this book. It really resonated with how my personality is wired and often I am a bit too much for certain people.

I want you to read the book to decide for yourself, but basically the author is a man who struggled growing up. His father worked hard to provide them an incredible life, then he died, and his mother struggled to provide the best she could. He grew resentful, became addicted to drugs and homeless, until he decided to be obsessed about doing it differently. He became obsessed about being the best at what he could be the best at and going for his dreams and what he wanted his life to look like.

This attitude of being obsessed flies in the face of most people and what they will tell you.

The word obsessed leaves a bad taste in people’s mouths.

For myself, growing up, I have always been an intense individual.  I really do enjoy competition and working hard to be better. To get the lead role.  To earn a scholarship or even to be crowned in a pageant.  I work hard and I focus on my goals because that is what I want.  I have watched my parents, as incredible of a life they tried to provide for us and it was indeed wonderful, they struggled financially.  My Dad, who worked in computer programming and was self taught, when he lost his job, he was always overqualified for. It was a struggle for a long time.

I had decided then that I didn’t want that kind of life for my family. I knew I couldn’t prevent bad things from always happening, but I could work hard to have the kind of lifestyle I wanted. But it wasn’t going to be handed out to me and I sure as heck was not going to rely on the government to help me!

This book will hit a raw nerve with some people.  If you are prone to excuses, if you are one who complains about your past a lot and blame others for your lack of success in life, you will hate the author. Ha! I am not kidding. He is straight up and direct and he doesn’t give you a ton of fluff.  He does tell you what you should do, why you should do it, stop complaining and get to work.

Which is what I like to hear because I like that type of direction.  I am a no nonsense gal and I am a bit intense, so when someone is direct and tells it like it is, I listen up.

Overall, I really enjoyed the book. I finished it in about two weeks (I tried to read about a chapter a night), and I highly recommend it for leaders and business women who are really truly ready to go after what they want in their business, their life, their marriage, for their families and so much more.

I will leave you with one quote (of many!) that stood out to me throughout this book:

“The world is filled with people who have given up on their dreams and now spend their lives trying to get others to give up on theirs.” 

Have people in your life who have something to say about your dreams? Things like:

*That will be really hard

*Most people fail in doing what you are trying to do

*Most people are younger when they start doing this

*How will you find the time?

*It isn’t realistic

*Why do you need to do this?

He addresses those very comments in the book. Get ready!

If you have dreams or ambitions or goals, many people who gave up on themselves will try to stop you.

Don’t let them.

A Strong Mind and Body is Greater Than a Skinny One

The other day I did a 17 Minute HIIT workout.  For most people, that won’t feel long enough to be considered an effective exercise, but I have been working out long enough to know that if I want a shorter workout, than I have to be willing to push myself a little harder.

And that is exactly what I did.  For those 17 minutes, I lifted heavier, squatted deeper, moved faster, and jumped higher than before.

All because I could. I finally could.

It felt amazing.

On Instagram and Facebook, it is very easy to get caught up in the image side of health and fitness. Everyone wants to six pack abs or to look super fit and toned.  If I am being honest, I want those things too.

But I have to remind myself all the time that a strong body and mind is way more valuable than just a skinny one.

Hear me out, I promise I won’t skinny shame.

When I look at my husband, I want to live long enough so that we become that couple that ditches their college bound kids to go on our own adventures.  I don’t want to be so sick and weak that I can’t travel with him. I want to go all over the world with him at my side.  I don’t want to just sit on the couch.

When I see my kids, I delight in their dreams of either being a Major League Baseball player or being an Olympic Swimmer, and I want to be in the front row as they chase their dreams. I don’t want to be on the couch just watching from afar because I am not healthy or strong enough to be there.

I want to be mentally alert and have conversations that inspire change and hope. I want to serve alongside my sisters and friends in our communities to make it a better place. It is hard to do that if I am house bound and unable to contribute.

I don’t just want to write about change and hope and love on social media. I want to be an ACTIVE part of it.

I don’t want to just spout off opinions.

I want to be a part of the chain reaction of LOVE and GRACE.

Each day that I choose to move my body is not only for aesthetics.

It is so I can contribute and use the gifts and talents that God has given me for Kingdom purpose.

You may see it as superficial.

I see it as vital.  God’s people healthy and living and active in the community to show His love.  His daughters loving their husbands and children and teaching them the way they should go.

Bestowing grace and being aware of those who are in need of hope in a dark filled world.  When I stopped viewing my workouts as simply for physical reasons and started looking at all the ways working out has helped me (including being some much needed therapy!), I have grown to love my time away to sweat. It doesn’t always mean my workouts are winners, but it does mean that I feel a little better, I feel good in the skin I am in, and I am ready to tackle whatever life throws at me.

Coach of the Week: Alesha Haley

Awhile back I decided to create a new feature for my team in order to celebrate those who were crushing their businesses and truly making a difference in their lives and in the lives of others.

And truly, it was hard to pick my first Coach to feature as I have quite a few gals who are just amazing, but I had to choose one.

Introducing my sweet friend, Alesha Haley.  She has been a coach on my team for 2 years and let me tell you, when she started, she took off like a rocket.

She was like a dream coach.  She had created online fitness accountability previously to becoming an online health coach with Beachbody, and she had fallen in love with helping people with find real solutions to their health and fitness struggles.

Over the last month, something triggered in her soul and that passion she had for truly making a difference in the lives of others resurfaced.

*She is consistently on the Top Volume Earner leader board that I share each week in our team page.

*She regularly posts valuable information and recipes to those that follow her on social media.

*She is a wife and mom to two adorable little girls.

*She created her own Team Manual for her brand new coaches who choose to join her team.

*She is creative and willingly shares everything she learns and uses for her business with her team, because she is that committed to helping them succeed.

*She is passionate and one of the sweetest women I know, and have yet to meet in person (which will happen soon!!!)

I have been so inspired by her hard work and passion that it has truly inspired and pushed me to be a better leader for my team and to consistently add more value to all of you who follow me so that you can be a better version of yourself. Because truly, isn’t that worth the hard work?

Friday Favorites Roundup

Happy Friday, friends!

We made it to the end of the week and the weekend is upon us.  I am so dang excited for the weekend. Why?

Because on Sunday, I leave for Laughlin. Yaaasss! I will be traveling with my Mama for a late birthday getaway and I can’t wait to plop my butt in the river and just relax.  Sometimes, when you start to wig out, you need a break.  And my favorite place to relax is by the river. So excited!

I have decided that each week, I will do a Friday Favorites Roundup of my favorite things that happened or I saw or I read or purchased. I love being inspired by pretty things, and I am sure many of you do too!

I got these amazing 1. state Iddah Performance Cutaway booties at the Nordstrom Anniversary sale as a birthday gift to myself and they are gorgeous! They come in so many colors.  I originally had wanted a different color, but after I placed my order, I got an email letting me know that the color I had wanted had sold out. So I went online and bought the black instead.  They are so cute and they are great with dresses and with jeans. Love them!

I have been obsessed with graphic tee’s and pretty skirts lately.  I had purchased this limited edition Lularoe Metallic skirt sometime during the holiday season last year, but I never got to wear it.  This week, I decided to wear it with my Greatest Commandment Tee from Cross Training Couture.  For the skirt, since mine was a limited edition piece, I am not sure many LLR consultants will still have them, but you can find similar pieces here , here, here.

It is no secret that I do enjoy cooking, but I truly don’t have a ton of time, especially now that school is back in session and baseball will be starting up soon, and not to mention swim has never ended! Holy cow!  I know I am really late to the Instant Pot game, but I finally tried it out awhile ago, and I am in love. So much that I got rid of my slow cooker, since my instant pot has the slow cooker function on it. The one that is linked is on sale, and I am not sure if it is still available, but you can definitely try and see if it is!  When they drop in price, they go fast!

I made an incredible dish called Lemon Garlic chicken from Predominately Paleo and it was a huge hit!  My husband wasn’t too sure about the Zoodles I had with the dish, but he gobbled it up so I call that a win in my book. And he even ate left overs…….yaaaaaassssss!

I also seem to be obsessed with anything blush when it comes to workout apparel.  I fully believe that when you buy yourself new workout clothes and gear, you are far more motivated to crush it. Yes? No? This is what I tell myself anyway! My husband and wallet may disagree with me, but that is my story and I am sticking to it! These are some of the things I am crushing on right now and are currently  on my want to buy real soon list.

And last, I am so inspired by my Back to School, Mama community. We started on Monday, and they are seriously crushing it! I am one proud coach as I know when you are a busy mama and things get super busy, it can be so hard to get into a healthy routine for yourself, but these women are willing to try and do it. And they are succeeding and pushing me to stay committed. I love it!!!
