Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Protein Bites

Just a disclaimer. I am not a food blogger. When I make meals or snacks, I practically scarf them down because I am that impatient when it comes to food. So I apologize in advance that I don’t have beautiful photos of my food.

You will have to settle for my obnoxious selfie instead.

Again, I apologize.

But I wanted to share with you a recipe that I made this last week that was so good, my husband demanded that I make them each week for a snack he could grab and go. It is also kid approved which means for all of you mamas out there who are struggling to find a new healthy snack to pack with your kids lunch, you can try this!

I adapted my recipe from Michelle Myers. I used slightly different ingredients, but they are still incredibly nutritious and a perfect snack for you and for your family. Enjoy!

Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Protein Bites

1 cup Quick Oats

1 Cup Real Organic Peanut butter (or nut butter of your choice)

1/2 cup of real honey

1/4 cup unsweetened shredded coconut

1 Scoop Vanilla Protein Powder (I used Shakeology for a superfood boost)

2 TBSP Chia Seeds

1/2 cup raw organic Cacao Nibs

  1. Add the quick oats, shredded coconut, protein powder & chia seeds into a large mixing bowl
  2. In a smaller mixing bowl, add nut butter and honey. Stir until well mixed.
  3. Add nut butter mixture into dry ingredients and use a spatula to blend ingredients together until they form a cookie dough texture.
  4. Sprinkle in cacao nibs until evenly distributed in the dough.
  5. Roll into balls. Wet your hands with water before rolling to prevent the mixture from sticking to your hands.
  6. Store then in the refrigerator in an air-tight container to avoid them from drying out.

These won’t last long in your house.  Mine lasted a few days. Actually, barely that. In all honesty, you should double your recipe and practice some portion control when it comes to these. They are that good!

Friday Fitness Deals

I am a girl who loves to shop for fitness deals. If there is a sale going on, I will find out about it and check it out. Today, I found out about Dick’s Sporting Goods shoe sale of 20% off select styles, so I thought I would browse and see what I could find.

Since my Cize Live certification, I have been on the hunt for some high tops. I didn’t necessarily need a crazy color, but I wanted something that I could see myself wearing in the gym and even out walking around.

This Should Break Our Hearts

I saw a news story today.

About a little boy named Omran who was rescued from the rubble of his home where it once stood, because it had been destroyed by a bomb.  The good news is, he and his family are alive.

But this photo breaks my heart into a million pieces.

He sits there. Numb.  In shock.  In the video I watched, he didn’t cry. Not once. He wipes his face to see better and looks at his hands, and he sees there is blood. He still doesn’t cry. He just tries to wipe it on the chair he is sitting on.

And I lost it. I am not even 100% sure what I want to share with you all this post today.  All I know is that one minute, I was happily dancing around in my living room for my workout, and the next minute I was in tears as I watched this little boy.

That could have been my little boy. It could have been yours.

These children have seen things I cannot even imagine my own children viewing. I change the channel whenever an inappropriate commercial comes on my television. You can’t change the channel when you are surrounded by war, death, and destruction.

While watching the video, I made the mistake of reading some of the comments.  People arguing that Trump this, or Hilary that, or Obama this.

People, can I be real for a second? Do you really think that the difference is in who we elect to this country? I have my own political positions, to be sure. But for crying out loud, let’s shut up with the name calling and politician bashing. This isn’t an election issue.

There is war. There is death. There are children dying and becoming orphans every day. And we sit here in our comfy homes and argue about politics. This is a human sin issue.

“What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions are at war within you? You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask.” James 4:1-2 ESV

We like to be right more than we like to help.  We like to gloat over our own knowledge and greatness more than we like to lend a hand.  We like to shout out phrases like “My body and my rights and my freedoms.” We want to be “Pro-Life” and fight for biblical ideals.

Well, what about Omran? Is he not worthy of your fight? Is he not worthy of experiencing freedom and hope and peace? Is he not worthy of the pro life movement because he happens to live in a country that has different beliefs and values and ideals?  Is he not worthy of having his little body free from pain?

And yet, here I am writing to you, and I don’t have an answer on how to stop it. Or how to help.  I am sure there are organizations that will provide aid. But, I look at that little boy and I am just gutted.  I want to do more than just pray for him and the people suffering. I don’t want to fight over which candidate is the best and will deal with this situation the best or complain about our sitting President.

I want that little boy in the photograph right there, to have hope. To be loved. To experience the freedom that my own kids experience every single day.

Can I just plead with you that for a moment, can we stop arguing and put our faith into action?  Look around you. There are so many who need help. So many who need hope and encouragement and their needs met. Fires in California. Flooding in Louisiana (my friend Natalie has a great way you can help if you are local). War in Syria.

Stop worrying about who is right or wrong. Right now isn’t the time for that.

The lives of humans matter. They matter.

That little boy.

He matters.

Country Heat or Cize? Which One is Right For You?

I get asked this question nearly every single day by you guys and I wanted to help you!  I know when a new program comes out, it can feel very overwhelming.  Which one is right for you?

That really depends on….well…you!

When Country Heat was being promoted, I had a lot of friends come out of the wood work who really wanted to know more information about the program. When I was going through 30 days of Cize, and I would share my dance videos on my Facebook personal page, I had a lot of people tell me how much they loved that I was dancing for a workout.

Which made me realize that I had a lot of people in my life who want to get their groove on.

Where have y’all been? You are my people!!!! Let’s dance together! And please, don’t tell me you can’t dance. Anyone can dance. Some better than others, but everyone can dance!

So I get asked a lot about the differences between Country Heat and Cize. Here is how they are similar:

*Both are Cardio Dance Fitness programs.

*Perfect for beginners to fitness and for the advanced.

*No equipment required and no dance experience required.

*Both come with their own nutrition guide and fitness calendar so you know what to eat and what workouts to do (This saves you so much time and money! You don’t need a personal trainer…you need a dang calendar telling you what to do!)

*Both come with the color coded portion control containers so you know exactly how much to eat.

*Both are extremely fun and will have you burning a ton of calories as well as getting you incredible results (so long as you follow the program)


Where they differ is in their style.  Cize is more of a choreographed dance routine that you learn and the perform in its entirety to a specific song that Shaun T picked for that number. You learn a series of 8 counts and put them all together to create a routine. The routine, after you have learned all the steps, is where you will Cize it Up. That is the best part!   You can see what I mean here.

With Country Heat, you learn 8 counts at a time, perform them, then move on to the next 8 counts, leaving behind those last 8 counts you just learned.  You don’t put all of the 8 counts together to create a dance routine like in Cize.  There is more memorization in Cize than in Country Heat. It is still fun, but just different.

Here is an example of Country Heat:

My favorite?  I love both, but I have to go with Cize. For me, Cize takes me back to when I performed in musical theater and in Show Choir. I love performing. I love dancing.  Whenever I hear a song with a good beat, I can’t help but move. Cize makes that happen for me. I get tired, and I break a sweat like crazy, but it makes me so happy. So happy, that I had to get certified to teach Cize Live in local fitness centers and gyms.  I love it that much!!

Cookies and Cream Superfood Smoothie

Before I get started, I just want to be 100% honest with you.

I despise Vanilla Shakeology. Like, it makes me cry and it breaks my heart every time I try to make it because I literally cannot stand the after taste of it.

Same goes for strawberry. 😫

All the other flavors are great! I love them and I tell the world about them. But Vanilla. Oh for the love of vanilla. Every time I have tried a recipe, it just breaks my heart into a bazillion pieces.

Until now.

You guys!!!!! I had seen this cookies and cream protein shake recipe floating around the inter webs and Pinterest and I wanted to make it more superfoody (is that a word? It is now!) so originally, I was going to use chocolate Shakeology.

But, something in me said “grab the vanilla.”

“What!” I said to myself. “You will be disappointed again! Don’t do it!”

But I did it.

And it was a victory, y’all! I totally did a victory dance in the kitchen because this is so good!

So I present to you, Cookies and Cream Shakeology smoothie. Prepare for happiness my friends!

Cookies and Cream Shakeology Smoothie:

1 frozen banana

1 cup unsweetened almond milk (or whatever milk you prefer. I don’t really do dairy in my shakes)

1 scoop Vanilla Shakeology (or vanilla protein powder…but you miss out on the superfood benefits)

2 TBSP cacao nibs or dark chocolate chips

1 TBSP almond butter 

1 tsp honey or real maple syrup

1/2 tsp vanilla extract 

Ice, if you like a thicker shake
Blend blend blend and the drink up!

Moms, Watch the Olympics with Your Daughters

My daughter, Madi, wants to swim competitively.

She is a fantastic swimmer. I don’t simply say that because she is my daughter.  Obviously, I am proud of her.  But she really is a great swimmer. She loves the water. She looks forward to when the weather heats up so she can grab her swimsuit, her goggles, and head out to the pool and spend hours out there.

It is her happy place.  I love watching her swim.

So when the Olympics began this last week, I was sitting right next to her as we watched women compete in the Olympic games in swimming.

Fellow mamas of daughters, I want to teach my daughter what strength looks like.  I come from an athletic background.  I played softball and ran cross country.  I was also a dancer, a singer, and an actress. I wasn’t worried too much about the outfits the women would be wearing while competing. I wasn’t going to pester her at that moment about modesty and pick a part the women’s uniforms.

I wanted to show my daughter, who desires to compete competitively in a sport that is very competitive, what it took, what strength looked like, and how these women are strong and they never gave up.

Madison is 10. This is the age where girls become a little bit more aware of the changes in their bodies. They notice that they may look different than the other girls.  They may be taller, bigger, shorter, have longer limbs, thicker legs. Around this age, girls begin to become so uncomfortable with their bodies that they quit participating in sports.

I don’t want my daughter to quit a sport or activity she loves because she is uncomfortable with her body. I want her to see the different bodies of women. I want her to see strong and health women as positive examples.  I am not interested in the Kardashians. They don’t represent strong to me.

Women like Katie Ledecky do.

Simone Biles represents strong to me.

My daughter sees me working out every day and she sees me try to make the best choices nutritionally for all of us, because I am trying to teach her that a healthy and strong body is capable of so much. It can’t prevent everything. We live in an imperfect world. But God created our bodies and it is right to be good stewards of it.

I want my daughter to love the body God created her to have. I want her to take care of it. I want her to appreciate how different she may look from other girls and I want her to love being strong and to pursue swimming if that is what her heart desires to do.  When you love doing something, it won’t feel like a chore.  You will have hard days, but you will continue to wake up each day excited to do what it is that you love.

We have enough female celebrities who try to sell the idea that nakedness and sex is empowering. I beg to differ.  I want my daughter to see what her body is capable of doing.  That she can be strong and feminine and lovely.  And that she doesn’t have to look like a carbon copy of everyone else in order to achieve her dreams.

Beachbody Health Bet-Get paid by Getting Healthier!

I HATE the word diet with a passion. I think why I hate it so much is because people tend to look at diet as a temporary thing as opposed to making a better way of eating and exercise as part of their new lifestyle.

Have you heard of the diet bet? I see people do it all the time online. They will put in a certain sum of money into a large pot with other individuals, and they will commit to a certain amount of time they will hold the competition, then the winner who loses the most gets the pot of money.  It sounds fun, but Beachbody is going to do our version of the diet bet one better.

Everyone wins.

And you get an actual plan that will help you succeed and win and get healthier. That, my friends, is winning.

So what is the Beachbody Health Bet?

It is a contest for YOU to participate in that allows you to workout to a fitness program of your choice (so many to choose from right now and a ton of them are on sale at this moment!) and drink Shakeology, record your progress, and be eligible to winning part of the $1 Million in cash prizes that are up for grabs. I say $1 Million because that is the guaranteed amount up for grabs to split, but depending on how many people participate, it could be more.

Here is how it works:

You don’t have to put in your own money into this pot. Beachbody is already adding to the pot.  All you need to do is commit to being in a fitness challenge group through the My Challenge Tracker App (which is the app I use for all of my fitness challenge groups. NO FB required!) and log in daily with your workouts and Shakeology.

The challenge is very simple.  It runs from September 5th through October 2nd, so start making plans to get committed now so you can participate in all 4 weeks and be eligible for cash prizes.

Here are the rules:

  1. You must be registered in MY challenge group in that app by August 31st.  If you already have a coach you are working with, please contact them to see if they have a group running during the health bet.  If you aren’t working with a coach, or you have no idea what a coach is, I would love to partner with you in your health and fitness journey.
  2. You must log a minimum of 5 Shakeology’s each week with a picture attached for proof. Remember, this is for your health and accountability will be required.  Posts are due by week’s end (9/11, 9/18, 9/25, 10/2)
  3. You must log a minimum of 3 workouts each week with a sweaty selfie.  Posts are due by week’s end (9/11, 9/18, 9/25, 10/2)

I have been running online fitness challenge groups for nearly 4 1/2 years and I can tell you that those who really step up, who participate in a complete fitness program and Shakeology and stay accountable and check in with their progress reach their goals. I do this every day myself. I would never tell you to do something I am not willing to do myself.

I probably get asked that question more than anything. So I am inviting you to an opportunity to learn about what I actually do as a Beachbody Coach.

Here is what I want from you first. Have an open mind. An open heart. And a willingness to learn and serve.

If health and fitness is something you enjoy and you have a desire to help other women become healthier, then I want you to be a part of Team Be a Size You.

Coaching is not a job where perfect people with perfect bodies tell others what to do.

We serve in health. Each of us has our own health and fitness beginning, and truthfully, each of us are still a work in progress. But we love people and we want to help them discover the joy of health and fitness. That it isn’t a horrible chore and that it isn’t about shoving supplements down our throats.

We offer real solutions to people’s struggles. Fitness and nutrition and accountability combined. That formula works. 

I will share my story as well as share answer the questions I get the most like:

Fitness Fashion for Frugal Mamas

I love shopping for clothes. It makes me happy. Some people enjoy going to the spa, getting their nails done. Eating out.

But for me? Drop me off at the mall or a cute little downtown area with fun boutiques and I am one happy gal! It fills my tank! Drains my bank account but there is no need to talk about that right now!

And speaking of shopping, I get a lot of questions asking me where I buy my fitness clothes. Truthfully, I don’t spend like to spend a lot of money on active wear. I LOVE Lorna Jane and Athleta, but seriously, spending $60 on leggings makes me cry just a tiny bit. I really only spend that kind of money if I obsess over them after seeing them in a store. I have to LOVE my purchase.

Before I went to Summit, I went to Forever 21 to find some workout clothes for myself and I was pleasantly surprised! I picked up a couple of really cute pieces, but I saw some online that I thought would be great to pick up later. Plus, they won’t break the bank!

There are so many to choose from!! This is one of those things that I like to reward myself with after finishing a fitness program. I will buy myself clothes or cute gear to motivate me to keep going, long after I have finished a program. Incentives are fun!

I’m Feeling 35

Today is my birthday!!!!  To be honest, I never really thought about what it would feel like to turn 35 years old.  Haha! It seemed like such a far away age when I was younger.

But here it is! And it is glorious.

I can honestly say that I feel more amazing at 35 than I did when I was 25.  I feel more confident in who I am as a woman of Christ, as a wife, as a mother, as a business woman, as a friend.

I could go on and on about how good being in my 30’s have felt. I know some women dread it.  Some decades are harder for others. I have no idea how I will feel in my 40’s and 50’s and beyond.

But I am going to embrace how good I feel now.  It just feels good to feel good in your skin and enjoy life. I know there are a lot of my fellow gal pals who will agree!

It feels good to feel good!
